Suceava, Romania
The first LTT activity of the EN4SE project took place in Suceava, Romania, between the 5th and the 9th of November 2018.
The guiding question of the meeting was: What is social entrepreneurship? The purpose of the meeting was to teach participants basic information about social entrepreneurship.
During the first day, participants presented their schools, regions and countries. After these presentations, students took part in an English lessons using CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology, during which they found out interesting things about Social Entrepreneurship and improved their vocabulary with useful expressions.
On the second day, participants took part in a workshop organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Suceava. Trainers involved all participants and at the same time allowed them to improve their knowledge and skills about social entrepreneurship.
During the third day of the LTT activity, students took part in other workshop on social entrepreneurship. They worked in international groups and prepared presentations using the knowledge they acquired during the first days of the LTT activity. Teachers took part in a debate organized by the host school on the importance of European educational projects in developing communication skills in English. It was a unique opportunity to disseminate information about projects implemented so far by all partner schools and exchange experiences with coordinators from the entire Suceava region, as well as to establish new contacts and start plans to implement new projects in the future.
Participants took part in an educational trip where they got in touch with local business trends. Participants visited two shoe factories, Marelbo and Nicolis and some small local handicraft companies.
After a week full of interesting activities, during the last day participants had the opportunity to present the results of their work from the entire week. Working in international groups, students presented their work on social entrepreneurship. They talked about the purpose of it, why people need a social enterprise and they even gave examples of social businesses.
Inquiry-oriented activities helped students to learn new things taking most of the information they need from the Internet. In this way, students’ time was used effectively and they focussed on the information rather than on looking for it. Their computers skills were improved and participants searched on the Internet to find the information they were asked for. Taking part in activities that involve content integrated learning from several disciplines in the field of social entrepreneurship and reinforced students' vocabulary and developed both language skills and comprehension of the topic. Participation in the designed lecture in the Chamber of Commerce allowed students to compare their findings with the information received there. Students worked in an open environment, they learned to work and to speak English in real-life situations, in multinational environments. They learned about the importance of learning and using professional English in the European labour market.
